Fisherman's Wharf

2nd Neighborhood Finished. Dock Ward - Wharf Street This neighborhood is named for the street that bisects a good portion of the neighborhood. The place doesn't smell much better than East Harbor but most residents do not have time to care. It is called the "Wharf" or the "Wharf's" or sometimes Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood. The Wharf Street neighborhood fronts the docks for the fishing fleet of Waterdeep.

From long before sunrise there is activity, supplies being loaded, nets being mended, all to be prepared for when the dawn cracks the sky. From that point it is frantic activity to set sail and get set up on the best spot and haul in the days catch. Almost before the last ship leaves the docks they start to return with all manner of sea creatures.

Merchants stand ready at the foot of the docks to be the first to grab the fresh seafood. Porters wait nearby to carry the cargo's to the cold warehouse, city taverns or other destinations.

For safety, large ships are forbidden to move between sunset and sunrise and must anchor in place. That does not stop the rowboat traffic to and from the docks. It is a mad scramble almost all hours of the day with a small break between late evening and early morning when the sailors are either sleeping it off or drinking it off in the nearby taverns and flophouses.

The west of the neighborhood is bordered by spice street with the Way of the dragon along the north side and Hog Street along the east. The fisherman's docks run along the south edge and complete the territory.

Ships are only allowed to dock long enough to load supplies and/or unload a cargo and are hurried away. If one ship tarries too long there could be a brawl among the crews.

Notable buildings include the Shipmaster's Hall which is a private dining club dedicated to ship masters, first mates and owners along with their escorts. The Sleeping Snake tavern which is a good place to go if you like to fight rather than drink. The Waterman's guild hall, a place to go if you need small boat transport around the harbor. Nestaur the Ropemaker has a shop along the docks if you want premium rope, rigging or any other hemp product. Finally Selune's smile in if you want some personal company. Strange coincidences happen there all the time.
