About 7 weeks have passed since I decided to take on this massive project. I have learned a tremendous amount about 3d design and building and now have a Prusa MK3 3d printer in addition to the Anycubic Photon resin printer. The capabilities of the resin printer to reproduce small items cannot be matched.
I printed a 3d tree in 1/10th scale yesterday and it has tertiary branches that are probably close to a hairs width. So there are no technological barriers to finishing this project.
The major military buildings are finished and majority of the walls. I cannot do any wall with a break in the map until I finish the alignment of the map on the table. On a side note the long PLA walls are already warping in the sunlight.
I am unhappy with the appearance of the first neighborhood. The houses do not give off a medieval air. I would place it more in the 1800's America. The architecture needs to change to reflect more of an older era. More chaos and less order. I can probably retrofit the first neighborhood so I am not sweating that but it might be some time till I can figure out how to tackle the architecture. Most of it will have to be on the photon for detail.
Soon I will peel the rock molds off the boulders in the front yard for the first try of wet casting the cliffs around the diorama. It says the rubber has to have 4 or 5 days to vulcanize. I can see the layers. Yesterday's layer was the one with the cloth in it and I think I am done on buildup on this go round. Will see what color it turns today under the hot sun and maybe peel tomorrow or Wednesday.
The rocks in the bay are not going into the model. I have some pictures of iceland islands that fit more of what I want on the map. I want to try to give some sense of scale.
Absolutely thrilled with the ships. They are going to fit perfectly.
